Admins pushing out update/install packages remotely through an MDM that weren’t aware of the change were surprised to find this out. Microsoft changed the licensing scheme (obviously), so an Office 2016 license would not work for an Office 2019 installation, as well as vice-versa.This is problematic for a couple of reasons: For some reason though, Microsoft decided to go from version 16.16 (which was a “Office 2016” release) right up to 16.17 and title it as Office 2019. This may seem like a strange thing to complain about, but every release prior to 2019 followed this format (14.x for 2011, 13.x for 2008, and so on). Unlike previous versions of Office, the new release of 2019 didn’t come with a major version number change. The release of Microsoft Office 2019 brought some headaches for us admins a few months ago.
